Russel Tyner AAA, AIA, OAA, NCARB

Principal Architect & President 

As the President and Principal Architect of Houston/Tyner, Russel Tyner has been successfully executing many hospitality, commercial, institutional and residential projects across the US and Canada. Russel is NCARB certified and holds several state licenses across the country. He brings to the team a wealth of knowledge, exceptional comprehension of interior and exterior architecture, interior design and functional space planning. Russel’s experience and leadership has guided him in developing a philosophy, which can be seen throughout his projects.

Gary Houston AAA, AIA, OAA, NCARB

Principal Architect & Chief Financial Officer 

As Principal Architect & Chief Financial Officer for Houston/Tyner, Gary Houston has been actively involved in projects with complex community, city, and state regulations as well as variances, re-zoning, conditional use permits, and code modifications. With over 25 years of experience in the architectural industry, he is well known by local building departments as an expert in code research. Gary’s hospitality design and planning history has led Houston/Tyner to the firm’s active involvement in numerous hospitality and commercial projects. His primary goal has always been to maintain design quality, monitor functional requirements, and assure the projects successful completion.

BJ Wickett, RA, AIA, CASp

Associate Architect

BJ received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Joining the Houston/Tyner team in 2001, BJ brought with him a well versed understanding of the fundamentals of architecture and design. As founding member of the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI), he contributes his vast knowledge base in hospitality, entertainment, and theme park architecture, building codes, and disabled access compliance requirements. Over the past several years, BJ also formed WHT- Access Compliance Specialists, which is a division of Houston/Tyner specializing in accessibility and code consulting. His expertise in ADA assessments has successfully established himself as a progressive leader in Due Diligence surveys for many clients country wide.

Gina Cabotaje, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Associate Architect

Gina earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo with on-site studies in Florence, Italy. Over the past 15 years with Houston/Tyner, Gina, with a passion for well-executed design, has excelled in her knowledge and understanding of building codes, disabled access compliance and LEED certification. Gina has been instrumental in design and documentation of a broad range of projects and emphasizes the importance of ecologically responsible and sustainable design strategies. Her experience with public spaces and space planning has allowed Houston/Tyner continued success in corporate, hospitality, institutional and housing projects.

Michael S. McCormick, RA, LEED, GA

Project Architect

With over 20 years of experience, Mike brings to the firm a broad range of architectural knowledge and design expertise. Mike is well practiced in all phases of project development. His expertise includes construction administration, resolving field issues, coordination across multiple disciplines, and ensuring adherence to demanding project schedules. His portfolio includes a diverse variety of project types; from public projects, multi-family units, to retail and commercial interior renovations.

Mike’s commitment to each project is reflected in every aspect of the designing and construction process. His effective communication skills and ability to quickly respond to challenging situations has assisted him in perfecting his approach towards successfully leading a project from inception to completion.
